The three main party leaders go head to head on TV tonight
Tonight is crunch time. The leaders of the three biggest parties go head-to-head-to-head.
With millions predicted to tune in, a couple hours of telly will exposed the all three leaders in ways that may not have thought about. A scratch on the nose, a sigh of relief or a quick bite back could instantly change the minds of the electorate.
So what should we be looking out for?
- Spill the beans – Any leader could end up looking stupid with an inaccurate or ill-informed statement. And be sure, Twitter, bloggers and Facebook will be on the edge of their seats waiting for a slip up.
- Lights, Camera, Action! - There is no time to yawn – and be careful because one yawn could set them all off. But any sign of boredom or tiredness will be noted.
- Three is a crowd – An argument with Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg could get quite heated or leave one leader looking weak while the other stronger candidates battle it out.
- Detail is crucial – Facts and figures are what the electorate want to hear – not a mumble jumble of why the other parties aren’t good enough. To be honest, Lord Mandelson phrase of “They just don’t get it,” is getting boring now. Cheap insults should be out the window at this stage.
- Their body language - Looking away before answering question, screams doubt. Fidgeting hands spell nerves. Everyone will be watching with eagle eyes for anything which signals the leader isn’t fit for the job.
So there we have it – take notes and let the battle commence. Tune into ITV1 at 8:30 tonight.
